Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then found numerous other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident made him without words and required to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
